SEAT BELT AUCTIONS : Cadillac seat belts were basically the same length as other GM divisions, in regards to the belt sets used in full sized cars of the era. Uniquely, the Cadillac belts were color coordinated to the interiors not boring black like some GM models! And they did not use plastic/painted covered buckle ends (that cracked and scuffed). Instead they still had the 1960’s style chrome & brushed metal look. The logo was “GM” so these can be used to enhance the interior of any Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile or Pontiac as well. FRONT SEAT – SHOULDER BELT STRAP SET OF 2. NOTE1 : Seat Belts were evolving quickly at this time, after being required by Federal Law in 1968, While shoulder straps were installed in most cars, they usually had a MALE Buckle end and an extra FEMALE buckle in the seat. Around Late 1971/Early 1972 at some point, this changed. They eliminated the extra seat buckle, and modified the MALE buckle on the end of the Lap Belt – adding a special hole that allowed the SHOULDER STRAP to interlock with it. Essentially this was the next evolution before the combined dual retractors came along in 1974. NOTE2 : These will not be compatible with later 1972-73 belts UNLESS you remove the “Male Buckle” and replace it with the “clip-in” buckle end as used on your 1972(late)thru 1973. Not terribly hard to do. The strapping from these belts could be used to repair your existing front or rear lap belts. Each belt is nearly 6 foot long (about 58-59 inches) and would be ideal donor material to use with your existing good buckles! PRODUCTION DATE: October 1971. DONOR VEHICLE: 1972 Cadillac Eldorado. CONDITION: Excellent condition set (2) of Shoulder Belts! The webbing of both belts is Superb for their age. No frays, fades or stains of consequence. The Male Chrome “BIG” Buckles are shiny and very good as well. (Big Buckle ends gave way to the smaller one right around 1972 as well). The flip down covers (roof end) are nice and clean too – no fade to the plastic coloring. Not much more to say, you will love these belts. This (used) 48 year old set is ideal as replacements for your faded existing ones, or to use as donor strapping to rebuild your worn lap belts. It’s up to YOU to verify the usability in your car PRIOR to purchasing. Plenty of pics & information for you to compare to your current belts. NOTE: I have no clue if these can work in mid-sized cars or muscle cars of that era – Quite possibly they might. Each are held in by a pair of bolts to the interior roofline. Models that would be probably compatible. 1971-73 Chevrolet Models: BelAir, Biscayne, Impala, Caprice, Station Wagon? 1971-73 Cadillac Models: Calais, Coupe Sedan DeVille, Fleetwood, Brougham, Eldorado (1971-78). 1971-73 Buick Models: Centurion, LeSabre, Electra 225, Riviera, Estate Wagon? 1971-73 Oldsmobile Models: Delta 88, 98, Toronado, Station Wagon? 1971-73 Pontiac Models: Catalina, Bonneville, Grandville, Station Wagon?
